It probably is over capacity, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the highway design is SEVERELY outdated, by more than 50 or 60 years to boot!

Absolutely. It's dangerous as well. Hardly any shoulder. Stop signs to get on a highway. Absolutely ridiculous.

At 11:00 PM, most highways are fairly empty. Even here in Connecticut. Jay

Everywhere has their share of bad drivers...like Cincinnati, where I am originally from...the thing there is to pass someone, get back in front of them, slow down doing the same speed you were doing before you passed. That always cracked me up. I doesn't matter who you pass, you are never going to be the first. There is always someone getting to your destination before you.

We always read about these road rage incidents. Me, I just shake my head, swallow my anger, and keep going. Of course someone pisses you off when they do something like cut you off, etc...but it's just not worth the tailgating, light flashing, and especially nothing physical. It benefits no one. The real advantatge of the situation is not being in an accident.

But for the life of me, I will never ever figure out who started this trend.....when you're stopped at a light, why in the world do people get as close to you as they possibly can....inching closer and closer? Makes no sense, serves no purpose.

And how was your day? LOL.

What an old thread!

My input while we are already revived:

I think it's more of a density thing than Connecticut or New York as a whole. It's just more complicated to drive with more people- especially if they aren't used to it (weren't raised or have lived there long)...or maybe it is a local thing and there is a vicious cycle of bad local drivers teaching the next generation

Anyway, that area's traffic is terrible...but come up to Boston and cross Brighton/Brookline to Quincy from 3:30pm-7:30pm; take the 5 mile Roxbury route. Those 5 miles will take you 2-2.5 hours, no joke. That was quite the lesson to learn.

I think the easiest solution is public transit in these situations, especially trains because they have their own rails that aren't subject to traffic- or at least not as often.

I feel like every person says their state has the worst drivers because there are good and bad drivers wherever you go. Some drivers are thinking of how much they hate their job, others are thinking about coffee and the pillow, while others have completely different sets of values while driving. With nothing but glass and steel dividing you from other drivers, there's nothing you would not say to other drivers. I wouldn't say Connecticut has bad drivers through experience. I take Interstate 84 every single day and i have to say through my eyes, Massachusetts SUV's tailgate, speed, and drive like madmen compared to us.
