I always thought that Connecticut's most popular tourist attraction was one of the casinos or maybe Mystic Seaport (I once heard it was one of the most popular places in the country.) Then I saw this map:

Map: Most Popular Attraction In Every State - TIME

Hammonasset Beach State Park? Really?

For Pete's sake! We have Gillette Castle, historic New Haven, two of the largest casinos in the world; Mark Twain's house, and our most cherished and valued attraction is a state park beach? Wow!

Other states that shocked me were:

Maine: This is a double shock! How is it possible that the most visited attraction is the L.L.Bean flagship store and is visited by 3.5 million people? Whoa!

Montana & Wyoming: Yellowstone National Park is that huge! One of the two need something else. lol

Arizona: I'm not surprised that the Grand Canyon is the main thing over there, but rather that it only gets 4.4 million tourists. I thought this attraction was in the same league as Disney World or Times Square.

California: Unbelievable that Disneyland is king in a state that offers so much!

I work in Times Square. It is definitely VERY busy. From Fairfield to Times Square is supposed to take 60-90 minutes, but when doing it 5 days a week on 95, Bruckner Expressway, and FDR Drive it can take 150 minutes (2 1/2 hours.) I get the tourist activity now...

During the day, yes, at night a little bit. Stamford isnt a real "tourist" attraction.

Seems to be an inverse correlation between how popular a place is and how interesting it is. Vegas and Disney? Really, America? People have awful, awful taste. Give me Crater Lake over Mickey Mouse anyday!
