How long u wait at the DMV, What your County your in ?

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Do you feel like you wait forever at the Department of Motor Vehicles? A recent study conducted by DMV.com found that residents of Fairfield County and throughout Connecticut spend 20 more minutes waiting at the DMV than the national average.
In fact, the 53.4-minute average wait time is the third longest in the country behind only West Virginia and California.
Wait times in neighboring states tend to be much shorter. Massachusetts residents wait an average of 10 fewer minutes, while New Yorkers spend an average of 20 fewer minutes at the DMV, according to the report.
The report blames a number of issues for the long wait times, including bad weather that results in closures and road test cancellations as well as the elimination of 151 positions at the state DMV due to budget cuts in 2011.
Another possible culprit for slow-moving DMV lines could be the state's REAL ID program that requires residents to show present proof of immigration status and proof of residence in order to obtain a secure license, DMV.com said.

I found myself going to the Texas DMV much more frequently than here... Wait times are longer here, but, I've been once since I moved back to Connecticut.

I renewed my driver's license recently in Old Saybrook. Even getting a REAL ID License, I was in and out in twenty minutes. No line what so ever .Only half a dozen people in there doing various DMV things. Most of the clerks were hanging around looking bored.

weird, I can't remember the last time I had a long wait at DMV. I think it was before John Rowland became governor, because I remember thinking that my wait times really started getting much shorter not long after he took office and giving him the "thumbs up" for that.

After giving up on Bridgeport, I went to Hamden after some posters on here recommended to me. Pretty quick, not long wait times. I'll never go to Bridgeport again......

Out of the ones I've tried, I've found the wait times to be the following, from worst to best:

1. Bridgeport
2. Norwalk
3. Hamden
4. Danbury
5. Old Saybrook

If I need a license renewal, registration renewal, copies, or any other minor item - I go to the Milford DMV office. In and out in 5 minutes.

Had to renew in February in Danbury. Maybe 30 minutes by the time I got my number to when I got my new license.

If you want to wait hours in line, come to Mass. Doesn't matter what that list says, the Registry (as they call it) in Mass is hard to beat for sheer frustration. To make matters worse, they have closed a lot of them and if you need to take the written test or road tests there are only a few places left that offer them. No one knows anything, they tell you the wrong thing, send you to the wrong line, etc. etc. etc.
