Thank you guys very much. This is giving us good feedback.

affordable: a decent house 3 plus bedrooms that has the basics without needing significant updating for 300,000 and under.

I am looking for more than test scores, I am looking for extracurricular, music, languages etc. any smart kid can so well on those tests. College prep courses etc... Also sports availability (don't care if they are great just offered).

Just about every school system outside of Waterbury (heck, even in Waterbury) offers the above mentioned. I'm not sure where the housing prices are in each town. But Beacon Falls and Prospect will probably fit that budget more.

I would look into southington. The school systems offers many programs from AP to agriculture. Southington schools are ranked #35 in the State ( according to USnews). Sports are a big part of the town from football to baseball to softball. You could get a nice house for 300k and the taxes are low for the area. The drive into Waterbury is not bad at all.
