We go to Silver Sands quite a bit in the summer. Love the boardwalk.
We have been talking about going to Hammonasset and Sleeping Giant for a few years. Are they worth going to?

Yes. Sleeping Giant all year round is great and in the snow was awesome.

Here's a long history post on it.

I'm a huge fan of Kent Falls, Southford Falls and Sleeping Giant. All have awesome hiking trails and nice recreation areas. Southford Falls is a great place to take photos for a special event.

I was at Sleeping Giant last Sun. and it was a great day for a long walk. Spent at least one hour up at the Tower. The Tower Trail is wide, easy for the most part and paved with little stones; I even met an unicyclist riding down! As of last week, there was no attendant in the booth, so you don't have to pay a parking charge yet (I have a pass anyway, but good for other people to know). Do not park on the road just before the park entrance, as I have seen whole lines for cars parked there (30 or 40) so you might assume it is ok to park there, but then the Hamden Police come by and ticket all the cars.

Interesting that Farm River State Park in East Haven is mentioned in the first posting. I live 3 blocks from the park and go there often. There is an active osprey nest on the river there now.

I don't think it was on the list, but Hubbard Park (Meriden) is nice -especially during the holidays with the decorations.

One of my favorite parks, though not a state park. Mr. Walter Hubbard had the park and tower at the top of the mountain designed and gave the park to the city for the public to use forever. He also had the foresight to leave funds for maintenance. I have walked up to the tower several times and from up there you can see the capitol building and Traveler's Tower in Hartford, Sleeping Giant, East Rock in New Haven and Long Island Sound. The road should be open now for vehicle travel, but it is a good walk, though long, about 3 miles each way.

I believe its the highest point within 25 miles from the coast from Florida to Maine. But the road ruins it for me. For Mt Washington fine, but for a 900 elevation? Ruins the "natural" beauty of the park/hill/ tower area.

I remember hiking Mt Greylock (Tallest in MA) for first time, enjoying the hike, being on the trail in the middle of the forest, then all of a sudden, I approached a paved road in the middle of the hike... . I had to cross this paved road and continue the hike up to the summit. Then at the top I came across more road.

It kinda ruined the experience for me but was worth the hike at the top. Although WAY to many people up there..

I'll add Hubbard to my list though. Thanks
