Tolls are never a good idea. Archaic way of collecting funds. And EVIL, downright EVIL.

Can you explain how? I'm not a huge fan of them, but electronically debiting a toll as somebody drives through at full speed is not archaic, and it's not evil if the money actually goes to what it's supposed to. I'd much rather contribute to something knowing what it's doing than have it supposedly come out of something else where I can't track it. Having I-95 DOES mean the roads are being destroyed at a much faster rate. Too much through traffic.

We have the highest gas tax in the country. Why is that not enough for maintaining our roads? Its not as if we are constructing new highways. Its also fact that tolls do not deter any volume whatsoever. See page 1.

I'd be okay with it under one condition only. That a certain large amount of the funds were earmarked specifically for future transport consideration (mass transit, light rails, bike lanes, etc.) that prepare for the long-term decline in fossil fuel production, and increase in said fuel cost.

Having said that, I have little to no faith that even if such a bill passed, the money wouldn't be squandered away by politicians caving into lobbying and campaign financing donations.
