Can anyone comment on what it's like to live in the apartments in this area? Where do people park, is it loud, etc.??

This area is the heart of downtown New Haven. While small in size, it is similar to the central business district of many urban areas. There are a lot of people, there is noise and there can be issues (though nothing to really worry about, just be careful). Parking can be a problem since there are limited spaces available and there are many people looking for places to park. On the other hand, the location offers a lot of great restaurants and shops plus you can walk to the train station (either State Street station or Union station) and there is wonderful entertainment options (theaters, clubs, Yale, etc.). All of the cities buses circle this area so you can get to just about anywhere in the city easily. Hope this helps, Jay

Thanks for the quick response. I've looked into the Crown Street garage, but apparently they do not have any vacancies, so I guess the only other parking option would be the Temple Street garage? Any other suggestions? Right now the parking issue is my main concern about moving to this area...

The temple street garage is much better in terms of accessibility. It has easy on and off from Rt. 34 and it is a very large garage.

The apartments in this neighborhood can be expensive (i've seen listings for studios at 900-1000, 1 bedrooms around 1300-1500, 2 bedrooms go over 2000)

as for a building, it would depend on what you are looking for.

temple square apartments appear to be very nice and they have underground parking. I have not been in them though.

I have a friend who lives in the Residence on the Green. Some of the apartments have an amazing view of the new haven green. Great security. Pets are allowed. Concierge services. Senator Joe Lieberman has his new haven residence in this building so it has some cache - at least for new haven that is. haha.

As for noise - this is the major club/nightlife district of all of CT and many young people come into this neighborhood on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you want to live downtown and avoid the noise/club areas, i suggest trying the Eli apartment building on Church street. This building is located on the north side of the new haven green. It is expensive (what isn't these days in downtown new haven?) but this side of the green is not as hip as the other side but is safe and quiet. There are quite a few condos/townhouses in this neighborhood that are home to many of the Yale faculty.

Thanks nhctguy! Anyone else have any comments about the area?
