Lyman's Orchard is quite large and more commercialized these days. If you want a much more quaint/low-key apple-picking orchard, I would recommend Lost Acres in North Granby:
Lost Acres Orchard - Welcome!

I'm sure that there are tons of other quaint apple orchards in CT as well.

I've spent a lot of time in Litchfield County. Much of it is NYC money country. Between the estates and the private country schools (Kent, etc) you're surrounded by NY money nearly everywhere.

Doesnt mean it "doesnt pass the down to earth test". "Down to earth" is exactly why so many people not originally from here settle down here. Nice country estates and boarding schools do not = not down to earth. If anything, quite the opposite. NYCers are welcomed here. "Typical NYC attitudes" are not. The locals will set you straight real quick with that if need be.

There is a NYC vibe to much of Litchfield County.

So coming to visit from the south we may get strange looks when we slip and say " hey Ya'll."

The northeast is nice and all though I know I would never be able to afford to live there again, I thought we were doing good at 102k annually but after researching taxes and home prices I'm not sure how anyone lives there unless you're making 800k a year.

However that doesn't mean I cannot come visit and help boost Connecticut's tourist economy.

Despite being liberals I like ya'll, you're good folks and were very helpful. When I come visit I would to bring a gift, a bottle of Virginia Moonshine, the legally made kind of course.

Not the geography; the people. Kent has a rude NYC vibe.
