Having said that, nordstroms numbers are down and they are closing stores. I'll believe this thing when I see it.
Why do you think Nordstrom is closing stores. They are laying off staff but to my knowledge have not announced any department store closings. The store has been announced and approvals seem to be moving forward. Barring any unforeseen issues it likely will get built. Jay

This is an ideal market for all high end retailers. They could be laying off and closing stores in other areas sure. But FFC? It's a natural fit.

Anyone working at UPS/FEDEX/USPS would disagree with you. I can tell you that all of my friends in norwalk/stamford use amazon for tons of things..

I use amazon prime for a lot of things and live in Norwalk...but when it comes to go jeans, dresses, shirts...I go out to the mall because I need to see how they fit.

This. Many people still need to see and try on clothes before buying them. There is also the overall shopping experience that plays into it as well. Though I must admit most retailers today have forgotten how to make that experience happen. Jay

Sure, even I use Prime now and again for certain things. Just bought new bike tires on it the other day, but people in the region like to be out and about enjoying all the great amenities the place has to offer like high end shopping. Just go down Greenwich Ave, Downtown Darien-Westport, Conn Ave big boxes - those places aren't ghost towns.

Don't forget New Canaan! I love Island Outfitters.

I shop on amazon because

#1. I cant stand looking at bumpers & red lights.
2. Convenience / Saves so much time
3. Easier to look for deals and compare on a screen then drive place to place
4. I cant stand looking at someones back for half hour or wait for someone who's paying by check
5. More variety and selections online
6. You can be naked and shop

On that note.. for clothes.. I 100% agree. I still want to try on clothes but it's not "in a Mall". An outlet Mall yes but I don't need an actual Mall to buy clothes.

We lived without a Mall and people have survived.

IMO it's a curiosity & having something to do thing, not a necessity thing this Mall.

The reason this is needed is that many Fairfield County residents shop in neighboring Westchester County or head down to New York City. A retailer like Nordstrom's is not going to locate in Norwalk unless they are pretty sure there is enough shoppers to support a new store. I know they track where their shoppers live and I would bet that their White Plains store gets a significant number of shoppers from Fairfield County. Not only would a new mall create jobs and improve Norwalk's tax base, it will also add to the state's sales tax receipts. Many good reasons for the new mall. You may not want or need it, but the vast majority of the rest of Fairfield County likely does. Jay
