Good riddance. I much prefer mixed-use downtown style development anyway.

LOL People said the same thing about downtowns 50 years ago. They were tired of the overcrowding, lack of convenient parking and having to deal with the elements (heat and cold). Wonder if 50 years from now there will be shift back to malls. I probably won't be around to see the answer though. Jay

Not really. Nordstroms had a record year last year so it is doing fine. Too soon to tell how this year will pan out but even if they are down it likely won't be by much.

Bloomingdale's is part of Macy's which is struggling with their namesake middle class store segment. They don't break out their division sales figures but as the link below indicates we are not seeing many if any Bloomingdale store closures.

As for the future of malls, you must remember that malls still provide the majority of retail sales in this country and while there is some not doing well, there are a number still thriving. Jay

Malls are a very focused shopping experience that can be better replicated online, which is probably one big reason why they're dying.

Whereas downtowns are a social, community gathering, living space, often with more interesting food and entertainment options. There's value beyond massive amounts of chains in an enclosed space. It's a place to live, play, and spend. Very different experience.

How many more downtowns do they need in lower county. We have anough of those too.
I think a Target would go well there, not another Cheesecake Factory themeland development.
