L'Ambiance disaster took the wind out of major CBD development for decades. I think it shut down two or three projects that were supposed to start right after Bridgeport Centre was finished (and those were only office). As well the Zoning Board decided to table other proposals until the new master plan came out, but by that time the recession stopped the financing cold. It's a strong enough residential market right now, little residential vacancies and any that come online get signed on quick.

Thanks for sharing. I actually forgot about this. I had to read up on it. How tall was this tower supposed to be?

It was going to be a 16 story residential. It was the prefab lift slab method. But it turned the Zoning board off of new mid rise construction until very recently (not to mention the infamous pay to play schemes that scared off investors until recently).

IMO Hartford is really the only city that has a distinctive skyline, mostly because of the iconic Travelers Building downtown. So that's what gets my vote. When I first moved to WH, I was renting an apartment, from my bedroom window I had the perfect view of Hartford's skyline. It was cool being able to raise the blinds in my room and see the city. Even now I miss it sometimes.

Another great place to view it is from Great River Park in East Hartford. The views of the Hartford skyline across the Connecticut River are stunning. Jay

Going Interstate 91 south through Hartford is by far my favorite route seeing its skyline. Travelers Tower is facing you, you get a good shot of Goodwin Square and it looks very dense coming around the bend by the old city dump. Anyone else agree? Whats the best route that gives the best shot of downtown?

This is a nice view coming down Sunset Ridge in East Hartford. I also think a great view of Hartford's skyline comes from Great River Park in East Hartford. Looking across the Connecticut River you see all the different buildings like the Travelers Tower, the Gold Building, the Phoenix Boat Building and City Place, but also the wonderful "flying carpet roof" of the Connecticut Science Center and the iconic blue onion dome of the Colt Building. Very pretty. Jay
