Your budget would do great up in the Danbury area. You could get about a 2200 square foot 3-4 bedroom colonial.

Anybody that has lived in western CT for any length of time could tell you that the OP is totally off on the towns that she mentioned. They just don't work for someone with a daily commute into the city.

I would agree with the Danbury/Bethel suggestions, however, if the OP will be commuting on 84 for her job(?), that could be not so great.

Default Danbury...

Thanks for your responses, guys. I will look into Danbury. I heard, though, that it is not suburban and more like B'klyn. I hope this is not true because we would hate to move into another busy and congested city. I have never, yet, so I do not know.

I mostly want the kids to be welcomed and comfortable, meaning good neighbors who are like minded and have kids, too. I don't care if they are black white or pink.

My job really won't be an issue, wherever I am. I'm concerned more about DH.

I was clearly clueless by choosing the towns I mentioned and am now doing my research on Danbury and it's looking good so far. We will be visiting soon to get a better feel of it.

Oh god it's so not like Brooklyn -- it's actually kind of the exact opposite. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and moved up this way about 20 years ago. And I never looked back it's really a nice area to live in once you get over the initial adjustment/culture shock -- it took me about a year or so, but I was early 20s when we moved here and it was before we had kids -- you will probably acclimate much faster than I did being that you are a little older than I was, and because you're already married with children. Good luck

Welcome to Connecticut 3rd smallest state in the nation don't expect our cities to have NYC feel CT cities are small to average but not that small. In CT from Greenwich to Rhode Island Border is 1 hour 40 mins drive that how small our state is that the same distance from greenwich to MA border or less time.

Danbury is no where like Brooklyn at all. There is a urban core, much of the land outside of the core is residential/suburban, with some pockets of higher density (townhomes, office buildings, some light industrial). There are several parks, and it is one of the safest areas in the country.

Manchester commute to the city would be suicidal. I lived in .Glastonbury for 10 years wouldn't consider taking a job south of Milford for that commute. Milford might not be bad to live
