I've never really seen racism in town either. I'm not saying it doesn't exist and there are definitely a few bad apples in every group, but I haven't seen it. I see the kids all playing together.
At the bottom of Lovely Street/Route 177 where it crosses Route 4 (Unionville section of Farmington) there used to be a tenant in a multi-family home there that had a Confederate Flag displayed in his window - this was 2007-08 or so. It was hung on the inside of his window like drapes, but clearly visible from the intersection.

That graffiti is on a sign on south Ridge road as you enter Farmington from Plainville. And, as I stated before, I am sure that the ignorant person/people who did that are in the minority here. I am sure that there is some culture shock, as the vibe of the town is completely different. Not bad, but, just different. I am hopeful that with time and encouragement from us (my husband and I), she will be just fine. Encouraged by the comments and certain that by the end of the year, her bad experiences will be a distant memory as she readies herself for the next phase of her life-college!

Best of luck to your daughter. My daughter struggled a bit when we left Avon - and she was only entering 5th grade when we moved to our new town... I'm sure it would have been much tougher if she was entering 12th grade and we moved across the country, not just across the state.

And, this was in the modern era where she was able to text or do facetime/skype with her old friends.
