Yup -- I just read your first post, and now see that you're coming from L.A. There will be NO place in CT that compares to Los Angeles. Everything will seem quiet to you; and so it's just a matter of how quiet you can stand. I grew up in NYC and moved here when I was in my early 20s. I was ready for uber quietness, and I wound up settling in northern fairfield county, which was a perfect match for me. You obviously seem to crave more action than I did in my 20s (Personally when I was 24, I was definitely ready to hide out, settle down, and start over here without ever looking back to where I came from! LOL ) Have you looked into White Plains? Very similar feel to Stamford, but just that much closer to NYC. Might be a good fit for you? Anyway, based on what you've said so far, I'm really thinking more Westchester County, NY than CT for you! ; )

White Plains always seemed less vibrant and walkable than Stamford to me. Lots of shopping, but mostly in malls.

I don't think Stamford is particularly "vibrant" either Just thinking proximity for this particular poster . . .

Hmm, in New Haven, visit these spots:

Drive up and down or walk all of Orange Street: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Or...94183b2de40dac

And Whitney Ave. That's generally the East Rock area.

Also walk around Whitney by Audubon: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Or...94183b2de40dac

And Upper State Street around where Modern is:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mo...53609d9efc5d33

Check out Wooster Square and Wooster Street:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wo...dede459f594462

Crown Street for nightlife, where BAR and Geronimo's is:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/BA...4e4dfb48df52c0

You can walk north on High Street from there

Shopping by Broadway:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Br...0a1abbb872df04

Mario Batali just opened a new Tarry Lodge restaurant there. Far from scary.

Maybe check out 9th Square:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fi...1cb05a746c048a

The area by the art galleries is great:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Th...dffb2781e299ac

All the way over to Howe Street:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ho...0c74187cdfef65

If you go back to Milford, go on a weekend night and go to SBC, Eli's Tavern, Citrus, or Colony Grill. Or even Bistro Basque. Again, it'll be more dead than the warm months, but shouldn't be totally dead. Drive along Gulf Street to the water, Beach Ave in Woodmont, Trumbull Ave, etc.

Yep, that was it. Less people go out between Sunday night and Wednesdays. Not sure why but restaurants are busier from Thursday to Sunday. Same goes for shopping. Still you are coming from a very large city to a small town. This is what you should expect. Actually it is one of things I like best. I once lived closer to New York and hated having to wait for an hour or more for a table at even a mediocore restaurant. Love the fact that most places here are not that way. The good with the bad as thery say. Jay

Yeah it's like a double whammy for CT feeling dead - November on off days.

It's actually not too odd considering you called a large town with a direct link to midtown Manhattan "deserted".

I also find it strange you visited one of our beaches in November and complained it was too quiet, especially seeing as you were here on a week day.

Now that's odd.

LOL you know I didn't think about that but now that you've brought it up I come to two thoughts.

1) You don't visit CT for it's beaches
2) You don't visit ANYWHERE in November north of Florida for it's beaches

lol
