I'm looking at a condo in Portland and I noticed that the heat is propane. It must be cheaper than oil, no? The house is newer with bells and whistles, but maybe I should pass since there are a lot of other properties in surrounding towns with natural gas? Does anyone have a propane heated home?

Propane was often more expensive than home heating oil last winter. However, it has been lower the previous winters. For the long run, a propane furnace requires less maintenance than an oil one. No idea on propane costs now, as it seems propane dealers won't list their prices online like oil dealers do, but I know oil is a good deal cheaper than it was last year when oil was cheaper than propane much of the winter.

However, if you had a choice between natural gas and propane, go with natural gas all the way unless the new condo is that much better & more desirable.

Thanks Jeff. You know what they say in the real estate biz, there's always another home out there. I was afraid of the answer, but I guess I'll pass.
