Here is the list of the top ten most dangerous places:

1. City of New Haven
2. City of Hartford
3. City of Bridgeport
4. City of New London
5. City of Waterbury
6. City of New Britain
7. Town of East Hartford
8. City of Meriden
9. City of Derby
10. Town of Manchester

I would put Waterbury was the 4th, Bridgeport and Hartford very close, then New Britain and New London
Not sure about the other cities, but New Haven is trending better

Hartford has more shootings than Bridgeport and Hartford.

Hartford has 96 so far, Bridgeport 68, New Haven 54.

I guess i must be somewhat immune to what i see in Bridgeport. I honestly thought Bridgeport and Hartford would be pretty even in the vote department.

I have no words for Waterbury rating worse than New Haven. JMHO.

I've lived in Waterbury my entire life and the city has always been perplexing to me.

I do not agree with the amount of votes Waterbury has received, as many have said. It definitely does have its share of problems- no doubt. Besides the poverty, crime, etc. the main problem with Waterbury is how apathetic people have gotten. There are TONS of middle-class and even upper middle-class families in Waterbury. Nobody would know that given the general perception of Waterbury. As many have said, there are some very nice neighborhoods in Waterbury. Generally, the farther away from downtown you are, the better the area is. And by better, I mean really, really nice and safe neighborhoods. Neighborhoods that may have 1 or 2 "sketchy" streets. Majority of the crime and poverty is concentrated in the downtown area and the areas immediately outside downtown. Again, it goes back to apathy. The middle class people in Waterbury can afford to send their children to the MANY private schools in the city. They have no business in the public education sector thus, Waterbury severely underperforms in comparison to the state.

Waterbury really has nothing going for them which is another problem. People have tried to bring business downtown and besides the major players (UConn, the Palace), they all fail. It's a valiant effort because the downtown area has the potential- it has quite a few historic buildings and the area is perfect to be a walkable area with shops and restaurants. However, the downtown area isn't going to be desirable overnight. And I'm not sure it will be desirable any time soon. It's waaay too close to all of the crime-ridden and run-down areas.

Is Waterbury the greatest? Definitely not. Is Waterbury the worst? Definitely not. Young people aren't coming here because why would they settle down in a place where the taxes are sky high and the schools aren't the greatest. I would go to Watertown, Middlebury, etc in a heartbeat too. I don't know much about New Haven and Hartford but I would argue that they do not have a lot of the good qualities that Waterbury possesses.

Really? I would be shocked if it was the other way around.

I live in a town next to Waterbury and, while I picked Bridgeport for worst city, Waterbury would be a close second. New Haven has so many cultural amenities (mostly due to Yale), nightlife, retail stores, and a vibrant downtown. Waterbury has a few big boxes, an empty downtown full of homeless people, and crumbling parks and streets. Even the so-called "nice" areas of Waterbury like Town Plot are decrepit and worn. Yes, there is less crime, but I'd rather have New Haven in its entirety than Waterbury.

Ditto. NHV definitely has worse neighborhoods, but offers a lot more as a destination and as a place to live for younger urban professionals (and is slated for more growth/improvement).
