If you like sour beers, OEC is worth searching out. They're in the middle of nowhere in Oxford, but the facility is really nice. They're an offshoot of B. United, which is a big beer importer.

Do any of the others you mentioned not fit that description?

I like Tempranillo, Malbec, Syrah usually.

Here's another in Oxford now too, which is run by the Caseus/Ordinary owner: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...0hog%20brewing

You and I like the same kinds of wines. I am generally a red drinker--big on Spanish. For Italian, I like Amarones, Barolos, Barbarescos. Not a huge French drinker.

Eh....it's hard to get a good red on CT wines. I like the Beacon at Jones...but, I can make a good sangria with it. The Merlot is pretty dry there (at least, the last batch we had.)

Sunset Meadow had some decent reds. CT is just really big on whites, unfortunately.

Good to know. At least I'll edge towards the whites when I visit!

Probably should have specified I was talking about the whites @ Gouveia Vineyards. Red is basically undrinkable and I'm far from a wine snob (I love cheap, young Spanish reds).

Yup....their Cayuga wine is the most popular. This is a very common (I think the most common?) grape in CT. Jone's does a nice Cayuga, too.

I personally don't lvoe Gouveia's Cayuga...there are much better.

Yep, I'm familiar with Black Hog Brewing. It used to be Cavalry Brewing Co. until the owner sold it. I haven't been there or OEC yet but they're on my list. Stamford just got a new brewery earlier this year. I'd love to visit there too, but I'm never in that part of the state for work or any reason. I'll probably wait until I drive down to Jersey at some point to see family so I can make it part of the trip down there (and then visit Captain Lawrence in Westchester.)

Gouveia is pretty good as far as wines go, but it's been a while since I've been there. I'll definitely be back, but probably not until fall since that's the best time to go.

Rosedale Farms Vineyard in Simsbury I find has some pretty good wines, even though they're small.

I think there are some solid breweries here in CT but the wineries are not very good at all. The wines are waaay overpriced for the quality of what they are which is the same thing I found with the wineries in Vermont when we lived there.
