Paul LePage is what. Just kidding I love that guy. Apparently the taxes are pretty opressive or something. I don't know. I have only been there for vacations so I haven't experienced it. Anyone care to chime in?

If you are moving from CT, Maine taxes would not feel oppressive. They are in line with most of the other New England states. The coastal towns of Maine, IMHO, are among the most scenic in the country.

You might like western PA. Pittsburgh has some really good colleges for if you decide to do that. We have winter but it starts later and ends sooner than in NE. Weather here is really pretty reasonable. Summers are rarely warmer than 85* and winters are only really cold in January/February. Not often much below zero. We don't get hurricanes, rarely get blizzards, and the few tornadoes we see are very weak and don't usually do more than give the local news a thrill.

The pace of life here is more relaxed than in CT and people in general are very friendly and the cost of living is much lower. Taxes are not bad although Allegheny county taxes are pretty high. The tax structure is a bit different. They don't tax vehicles but you have to pay an income tax to the township you live in.

I've never been to Norway, Maine but I have been to a number of other towns in that part of Maine that were very nice. You'd be fairly close to Sunday River which is great if you are into skiing. There are also plenty of lakes in Western Maine and some amazing hiking, camping and fishing. It is a very rural area- as is most of Maine really outside of Portland and the area near NH. I'm from Maine, so in the interest if full disclosure, there really aren't any parts of the state that I don't like.
