Okay, I had to see this for myself.

The DOT's interactive map gives the travel times posted on the variable message signs.

As of 4:50 PM...15 miles/20 minutes from the state line to route 7 (average speed=45 mph).

Is this a result of extended holiday vacations? University winter break? I find it difficult to believe that issue is really solved, but that stretch usually takes more like 40 minutes.

If one mile of improvements via an auxillary ("speed change") lane is really going to cut peak travel time in half...well, that seems analogous to curing cancer with a multivitamin.

Evening traffic has been exceptionally light on 684 as well since the holidays. I thought it would pick up again after New Year's was behind us, but it hasn't yet. I haven't had to take back roads home since the week before Christmas -- not even on Fridays. (Not that I'm complaining, but it is weird )

Yeah. The last week and a half has been weird. Volume has been light like it was ~'09-'11, when the economy was in the tank.

15 minute commute this morning - cruised right through to Exit 15 connector. Also have noticed on the West Rocks overpass the Merritt has been moving freely as well so don't think it's a 4th lane on I95 factor.

Tuesday will be the real test. Everybody, including colleges, will be back working so you will see if there is anything going on. Jay

I noticed that traffic on 91SB Middletown to New Haven has been pretty heavy lately. Both inbound (6a) and outbound (5p). I am not liking it.

That's not normal? When I worked up by Hartford, last year, I would hit that regularly.

5pm on I91NB more so, but in the past few weeks traveling i91SB at 6a there is noticeable increase in cars/traffic.
