I am relocating to the "Hartford county" area and I am looking for a large studio or one bedroom preferably not more than $1000 (although I am flexible if it's worth it). I am interested in the Colt Gateway luxury apartments in "downtown" Hartford, or 179 Allen St apartments. I know Colt Gateway is not exactly in downtown, and I can't find much reviews on either property. I am a single (attractive) female, 24 y.o. I have been living on my own for 6 years and I am comfortable in an "urban" setting, I am aware Hartford isn't the best place on earth and I am ok with that. With that being said I do have standards and will not move into a completely undesirable area. Does anyone have any info on these property or know of any other properties either in Hartford CT or surrounding cities? (I'm flexible on location, I just want to be somewhere nice and be comfortable) Please help!

I know a few folks that live in that community and they like it. The apartments are also nice. Big windows so you get lots of light and depending on where you are in the building, pretty views. You may want to join the "Dwelling in Downtown; Hartford" group on Facebook and also ask there. The administrator for that page lives in those apartments and you'll get a wealth of information from folks who actually live Downtown. Welcome to the City!

I had a young single (attractive) coworker that lived in Colt for several years and she loved it too. She liked many of the same things mentioned by Amy. Note though that she grew up in New York City so she was not put off by the urban environment. Allen Street is right in the middle of downtown, while Colt is really outside of it in a more isolated area. It is really your personal preference which one suits you best. Jay

I've heard some good things about them, but don't know anybody that has lived there personally. There are not a lot of other "urban" or semi-urban options in the Hartford area.

Colt will be the first national park in CT pretty soon.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the feedback! JayCT, I am not put off by the urban setter either, are there any other properties you'd recommened? I am sure I will go with Colt Gateway (seems to fit all my needs) just was curious if I was overlooking anything. Thanks again.

The problem with Hartford is that the rental market is tight, particularly downtown. I think you found the few places that are available. Off hand I can't think of others. Good luck and let us know what you decide and how you like it. Jay

I'd offer up some suggestions, but all of my friends are ugly.
