If you are interested in views look at Newgate Rd in East Simsbury which is the same street Old New Gate Prison* is located on. I don't think there are any houses under 300k in this area, but you never know. (not all houses on this street have views) The views look west.

*Old New Gate prison is a tourist attraction and doesn't house prisoners.
Old Newgate Prison is in East Granby, not East Simsbury. And by the way, it is closed. The state closed it to save money several years ago which is too bad since it is kind of interesting. It is a colonial prison built into a series of caves and mines. Kind of neat to see. Jay

I live in Marlborough (the northern half, north of Rt. 66) and can be in downtown Hartford via Route 2 in 20 minutes if there is no traffic. With traffic on an average weekday during the morning rush (it peaks around 730-8 am) I can be downtown in 25-30 minutes. There are several grocery stores within 15 minutes of my house: Whole Foods in Glastonbury, 2 Stop & Shops in Glastonbury, 1 Shop Rite on E Htfd/Glastonbury line or East Hampton Stop and Shop. Highland Park Market in Glastonbury is about 10 minutes from my house but isn't as big as Stop and Shop or Whole Foods...ditto for Ted's IGA in Hebron. It is a very family oriented town- lots of events through the schools as well as through various groups in town. I moved here with no kids and didn't have any trouble getting involved in things and meeting people.

We live in Granby near the town center and husband works in downtown Hartford. It usually takes him 40 minutes to get to work on a normal day. Sometimes longer if the weather is bad and add 10 to 15 minutes if your home happens to be in West Granby or North Granby.
