I enjoy all the season of New England. At this time of the year I really would like to see some snow and had been looking forward to a planned ski vacation up north with my family. It looks like the ski area isn't going to be able to hold on to the few trails they had pumped snow onto last weekend when a cold spell rolled through.
March isn't that far off. A normal winter sets the stage for a beautiful spring, summer and fall. Hopefully mother nature will bring some balance to this abnormally warm winter season for those of us who enjoy, and those whose livelihoods depend on, all the changes New England has to offer.
Not a skier a few friend's are they go up to Mt
Jay in Vermont then there is a mountain right near by in Canada they check out. They head straight up Route 7 there in 3 hour's.

Jay Peak? The only place Jay Peak is 3 hours from is northern Mass or even southern Vermont.
Sometimes I click the webcams to see how the conditions look but sometimes it's fun to watch people live. There were 2 people just having fun skiing down and doing jumps.
Historically, I've always snowboarded in PA and Vermont, but this needs to change as I do not have the time I did when in HS and college . I've lived 20 minutes from Mount Southington for 4 years now and just went for the first time yesterday lol. More on that in a bit...
Basically, every year I tell myself, "bahhh, 50-60 bucks for a lift ticket at Mount Southington? I'd rather pay 90 for a lift ticket and go to killington in VT" The problem is, I never do. Between not knowing many boarders to ride with in CT, house, job, school, wife etc I never pulled the trigger on doing a day trip alone. That has changed though! I told myself I will no longer fall into this perpetual "ill go to VT later" trap.
My wife finally decided she wants to learn to ride. Got her lessons for xmass and we went to Mt Southington yesterday and she had a ton of fun. The mountain is SMALL. But it's definitely better than not riding at all and they have a great deal for 10-3 riding during the week for $35 bucks. Not bad at all and makes great use of a personal day at work. Will definitely be going more.
Oh, yeah, then my wife and I went to the ski shop in bristol and both got new boards. Oops I was due for one anyway, been riding the same rig for 10 years. And the rentals never hook her up quite right. Her bindings were too loose, board too big and not flexible enough for beginner. had similar issues last year @ different mountain.
Been to Sundown and Mount Southington in CT now. Both enjoyable enough for simple cheaper day trips. Both especially good for beginners.
