That’s a great fetch for the town. The Darien store is my go to.

Moving into Whole Foods' backyard. Will be interesting to see how that shapes out.

Just like all of them (most TJ in CT are close to a WF), both thrive.

I don’t think New Haven will have one maybe Madison, Guilford, Old Saybrook next cover southeastern part of the state. Trader Joe open in high income areas I was surprised by Manchester location.

South Windsor, Ellington, Tolland.....those have become higher income spots. Not Wilton or anything, but probably Trader Joe's territory. They also just opened a Whole Foods at Evergreen Walk on the South Windsor/Manchester line.

But what's interesting about price/income is I've done some price comparisons before between Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Shop Rite, and Aldi. The only thing that really stood out as the outlier was Aldi. They are dramatically cheaper than everyone else. But the others? Surprisingly closer in prices than I would have imagined and that I think most people imagine. Most probably pick a grocery store and stick with it so they might develop a slightly distorted view of prices--thinking it's cheaper or more expensive than maybe it really is. My hunch? While grocery stores themselves are far from monopolies--there's a million of them that have to compete with each other-the grocer is only the middle man. The real factor is the food companies themselves who sell to the grocery stores. And those are just a handful of large conglomerates. So I imagine a lot of grocery stores are paying close to the same to get the food in the store, so it stands to reason they all have to charge roughly the same to the customer. So grocery stores may present us with choice which is somewhat of an illusion.

Trader Joe pricing is well below Whole Foods, S&S, and Stews. It may even be a notch below ShopRite. They are not just in high income areas. A New Haven placement would be in line.

Bridgeport Ave, Shelton is in Traders Joe’s plans. Towards end of this year.
