The liquor store thing really drives me a up a wall. We don't need extended hours beyond what they are. Why you would need to run out after 10pm to get more booze, plan ahead a little bit geez. I'd rather see them tighten up on the loads of tiny cruddy beer shops everywhere.

Maybe he figures we'll all be too drunk to realize how stupid this is. Too bad I don't drink - another state "benefit" I can't take advantage of. How about lowering the gas prices?

Most people THINK they don't buy much "stuff" but if you added all the stuff you did buy to live an average normal middle class (middle income) life where in CT you would be just like the rest of us. That is how the state of CT gets away with all these regressive taxes....they convince people the rich are going to pay them all but of course it is the opposite. They are regressive because the fall on the backs of the poor and middle class.

Please don't lump me in with "most people". I itemize every penny I touch. I don't make much so I have to, plus I'm a numbers geek. Trust me when I say I don't buy much "stuff". I still have 2 fat back TVs (and no flat screens). And a 29 year old car. And no kids.

Very disappointing. This will hurt the poor more than anything, because their welfare benefits will likely be reduced, due to reduced state tax revenues.

In the end he will be cutting sales tax but will re-instate the clothing tax. So basically he will "save" us $70m in sales tax, but the state will gain $135m in "new" clothing tax.

Move the money from one hand to the other. Shell game. CT's low/middle class still get the shaft.

This can only get worse from here. Thanks to all the people who voted for him. Wonder what new taxes, excuse me, "fees" we will be seeing soon.

The clothing tax was ALREADY reinstated! Please get your facts right, I've already stated that 2-3 times in this thread.

Part of the clothing tax will be eliminated this July: "Exempting clothing costing less than $50 from sales taxes – a tax break scheduled to start this July under legislation Malloy signed last May – would save consumers $145 million next year." But there IS currently tax on clothing.

So, just so I get my facts straight. Currently, there is sales tax on clothing costing <$50. However, starting July 2015, this tax on clothing <$50 was to go away. Now, what we are hearing is that he will KEEP the tax on clothing <$50?

How does that "help" the low/middle class? It seems like another tax. I'm not being snippy, but it seems counter productive especially because the poor/middle class (which I am) buy cloths under $50.
