Go for Trumbull, IMO. Better schools. Generally speaking Stratford is the poor man's Trumbull and Trumbull is the poor man's Easton/Fairfield, as far as the Greater Bridgeport area towns go.

Hi Tazzland,

I live in Trumbull and it is very nice and the school system is better than Stratford's. If good schools are very important people try to get into Trumbull if they can.

But having said the above I will say this about Stratford. There are some very nice sections of Stratford. I have cousins from Stratford. One of my cousins who went through the Stratford school system ended up getting a full scholarship to Harvard and then medical school. He is a cancer specialist. He is probably one of the smartest people I know. He is now in his early 60's and went through the school system many years ago though.

Yes, but the guy is in his 60s, so a lot has changed. When I grew up - I'm in my late 40s now - East Hartford had some of the best schools in the Hartford area. I remember when my parents moved from an apartment in East Hartford to a home in Cromwell in the early 70s so we could be closer to both my mom's family and my dad's family,my mom's big regret was that we would not be attending East Hartford schools.

Now, if you look up East Hartford schools, they are near the bottom in the state in terms of test scores - not even among the top 150 public schools.

And, that's a change over 30-40 years, not 45-55 years like your doctor friend.

Funny you compare Stratford to East Hartford. I thin they are very similar, just like West Hartford is similar to Fairfield. I also think Glastonbury is kind of like Trumbull but that is just me. Jay

Thanks guys I appreciate your suggestion. However, my budget is 300k. But I've heard that Stratford is a flooding zone. Not sure of the area in Stratford that is prone to flooding. Is this so?

You can get a nice house in Shelton, Milford, even Orange for 300k. It's a tough price point for Trumbull.

Flooding is elevation dependent in every coastal town. I'm a half mile from the water but on a hill so I never have to worry. You just have to look at it on a case by case basis and look into whether the house is in a flood zone and what its elevation is.

A $300,000 home in Trumbull will most likely need a lot of work. Shelton, Milford and Orange are excellent choices if you can't get into Trumbull.

The real estate listing should note whether it's flood zone or not. The areas that are most likely in flood zones would be Lordship (the southern end of town that juts out into the sound, near the small airport) or along the Housatonic River. There are some other random flood zone areas due to streams, but it should be clearly listed.

Our house in Stratford, near the Paradise Green area, has never had flooding issues/water due to rainstorms or anything like that.

That's where our house is that we're selling. We've liked it! We spend lots of time taking walks in the area or to the shops there by the Green.
