What happens to the private ferry companies then ? Give them the subsidies too. I'm not sure there's enough demand for crossing CT to LI though to warrant this type of service. There would need to be some studies done.

Also, some time ago (maybe 10 years ago) Foxwoods operated a private ferry service for high rollers from eastern LI to New London. I don't know why they stopped or if they charged for the service.

In addition to ferries crossing Long Island sound, the state(s) NY + CT should look into operating some type of passenger ferries between Stamford, Greenwich, and NYC to help relieve some traffic on I-95.
Is part of the reason behind limited demand because there is limited service? If they had faster and more modern ferries and several stops on both sides, would there be more usage of the ferry service?

Right now, there is the New London to Orient Point service that runs hourly during the week. However, Orient Point is the eastern tip of Long Island and away from most of the population of the island... if you take a car, it is $55 round trip for one person, or $325/week, and $1,300/month. (I assume there is some sort of discount for frequent use, but I'm in a rush right now). Not sure about bus service in either location to employment centers.

There is also Bridgeport to Port Jefferson. Nothing in between, is there?

How about one from Norwalk or Stamford to Long Island, and maybe one or two from the New Haven area? (West Haven or New Haven and Clinton/Westbrook?)

Maybe if some of those billionaire hedge fund kings in Greenwich, Connecticut wish to chip in, there could be a chance. The cost of financing the Long Island Sound Link from Rye, NY to Oyster Bay, NY would be something to the tune of $10 Billion Dollars.
