Living near 34 in Derby is about 10 mins from downtown Milford….not exactly going to stop those opportunities. I live near Route 34 in Orange, 6 minutes to Derby, 7 minutes to downtown Milford. Nothing is preventing you from crossing town lines!!!

Can anybody tell me anything about Martin St in West Haven? Will I be dodging bullets in this area or is it relatively safe? I'll be touring a place here after work today.

After that I'm headed to Westville in New Haven to view another from the same realtor. I've heard this neighborhood is decent enough.

And lastly I'm off to Bridgeport on Florence Ave in Milford. This is a relatively cheap 1 bed that I'm assuming is in one of the grittier parts of Milford.

Great. Westville is a nice urban village. I hope you will like it there. Let us know how it goes. Jay

Westville is nice, as long as you aren't too close to Edgewood - which gets some spillover crime. Nice area though, good luck.

Btw Florence Ave in Milford is in a perfectly fine, working class neighborhood on the edge of Devon. Mostly families.

Westville rents are up there too, for similar square footage. If I were a single 30-year-old male I probably would've stuck with the Milford idea. Much closer to the shoreline, easy access to all the highways, easy access to a couple of different routes to Shelton/the Valley area, better chance at finding safe secure parking, and less of a chance of getting shot if I decide to go for a 2-mile walk on a nice day.

I'm on Willard Street which is tucked away in a little residential enclave. Neighborhood looks perfectly safe to me considering it's in New Haven, plus I have off street parking.

I tried my damnedest to find something affordable in Milford that wasn't a dump. Just wasn't happening. The commute from Westville to my office is 20 minutes at worst. I also have downtown New Haven a few minutes away, and to be honest I think the scene there is more desirable than Milford's for a single guy. To each their own though.

New Haven's scene is much better than Milford's "broish" scene. Glad you found a place. Will you be commuting via Route 34 or the parkway to Route 110?

Willard Street is nice. New Haven has a much more robust and diverse nightlife scene than Milford.

I'm glad you asked, actually. I took 34 yesterday from where I work and it seemed like a relatively breezy commute. Is the Wilbur Cross heavily congested after 5pm? I might try that route today.
