Why am I starting to feel proud to be "gritty" after reading this thread?

Yes, thought that went without saying - and Hartford and Fairfield County both have their gritty "big" city. Bridgeport is certainly grittier overall than New Haven.

I just love the biased views we all have on this forum, lol! If there was a ranking, I'd say it'd be something like:

1- Fairfield
2- Milford
3- WeHa
4- Danbury

Okay, but do people in NHC frequently talk about NYC in the workplace and in general? Here in FFC in my office, people seem to worship NYC and talk about it at work frequently and their day trips or even at night for dinner, etc. Even outside of work, people occasionally or frequently talk about it and make plans to go "down to the city" and stuff. Personally, I don't care about NYC and want nothing to do with it or even hear about it. When I lived in Hartford County, it was very, very rare for people to talk about NYC or make plans to visit the city, etc. People actually lived their lives in Hartford County 99% of the time. I liked that. So, is NHC more similar to Hartford County people in that regard? Or more similar to FFC? Or what?

NHC is that much more accessible to NYC, so yes people do go in for day trips and weekend trips. I would not say that it's as connected as FFC.

I honestly feel like most people I work with don't utilize NYC as much as they should.

You'll likely find it to be somewhere inbetween FFC and Hartford, just like it is geographically...

Sounds like if I moved to NHC, I would just want to move to HC instead. Seems like the only areas in CT that I like are HC and NLC. Probably because that's all my family associated with (growing up, beach houses, memories, etc.).

The coast east of New Haven has a different feel altogether. It's similar to NLC there.

I think you are totally blowing the NYC influence out of proportion. Once you get outside of the commutable area, where you are now, the amount of people that work and play in NYC drops off drastically.

I really don't understand your obsession with this. Who cares if people go into New York or not. It is a great city and some people like it but some don't. I would not base my decision of where to move by whether or not people in the area go into New York or not. Concentrate on finding a job you will like in an area you will like. You have already decided that Fairfield County is not for you (what a surprise, but you were warned by many of us here before you made the move). Look for a new job in BOTH New Haven and Hartford Counties. Heck throw in New London as well. Jay
