So OP - you were distracted JUST enough that you didn't notice you were using a cell phone in plain sight of a police officer, and now you're upset that you got caught using a cell phone in plain sight of a police officer and using the "I wasn't distracted" excuse to justify it?

Just pay the fine, and stop using your cell phone as a GPS until you can get it mounted on your dashboard.

I also agree with the person who said police have been cracking down like CRAZY on cell phones (just like they should) and I am not so sure the prosecutors …who are always on the side of the cops…will have much leniency.

This. Its just not worth if to me to take a day off and deal with the hassle, especially for $50.

Great description. CT uses a passive aggressive approach when it comes to punishment on these traffic tickets. Taking a day off work, paying for parking, and wasting your time is part of the "experience."

Last time I was in traffic court in West Hartford I got there at 9am saw the judge at 2pm. Almost an entire day wasted. They had about 75 defendants milling about the court and lobby and no one cared. To add more insult the man who was the judge was in the court around 10am because I saw him in the lobby. He continued walking thru the lobby the whole time to and from the elevator. I presume to go to different offices. He didn't have a care in the world for all the people who were waiting.
