Hi,

My wife and I are empty nesters moving from Chicago, where there are tons of independent coffee houses, to Stamford. Wondering if there are any coffee houses in the Stanford area where I can grab a lounge chair, a cup of coffee, and lounge for a couple of hours for reading and such .. and meet other regulars!? Thanks.

Lorca on Bedford street. Great coffee shop, though no lounge seating

Thanks. Yes I remember that coffee house from Yelp. Still hoping there is a nice old fashion lounge chair or sofa for me somewhere. Thx.

Stamford isn't much for independent coffee shops. Lorca and maybe Oo La La? That's about it other than Starbucks. Nearby Darien has Neat which is decent.

Thanks Stylo. Going to miss the Chicago coffee scene. I guess independents can't sell enough java to pay the rent in Stamford. I hear New Haven is great for what I am looking for, but alas quite a ride away.

definitely give Lorca a try -- it really is awesome coffee; just not the atmosphere I think you're looking for (ex. yes, there's seating, but no, not the comfy type youd want to spend *hours* on end in
Ooh la la is Ok, but it's more of a decent lunch spot than coffee shop -- their soups are particularly good -- at least the ones I've sample. They also have nice selection of Gelato Giuliana in the summer months
But for coffee -- I'd definitely go Lorca

Judging by your posts you would love New Haven. You might find Stamford corporate/sterile. It's not THAT much further away if you're not traveling during rush hour.

Yes, I am sure I would love New Haven but there are spots in Westchester that I will be going to frequently as well as family in Brooklyn and Queens. Stamford also has the best inventory of apts. and condos in the Metro area which pretty much makes it mandatory for the first year or so until we figure out where we will be settling down. Westchester inventory is unbelievably tight. The residents who I talk to have no idea how tight it really is.

Thanks for the responses!

Yes, New Haven's apartment inventory is lousy right now. FYI that will change this summer with the opening of:

College & Crown - New Haven Apartments For Rent | College and Crown
The Union - The Union | Luxury Apartments in New Haven CT
Winchester Lofts - Apartment Rentals in New Haven | Winchester Lofts | New Haven Apts
Metro 280 - Luxury Apartments in New Haven, CT

Also the big complex on Howe and Chapel, which I can't find a website for.

U cant really compare the options between Chicago (A world class city and one of the biggest in the U.S.) to Stamford (which is not).
