It does not say where this guy works or if he even has a job. They even admit it was their plan to move before recent tax increases. Sounds like an excuse turned into a political agenda. Jay

What a silly, superficial reason to move out of state. Perhaps he should downsize so that his tax bill is lower. Property taxes are not a flat dollar amount, but rather correlated with the property assessment. What an idiot.

Ansonia City Council positions aren't really jobs- they are paid stipend positions- people on the Board have other full time jobs. If he wants to go- then good-bye- he's lived in 14 other states. He owns a safety consulting business. Moving to other states 14 times sounds more like a perennial malcontent, even if maybe some of those moves were as a child. I suspect perhaps his business is neither growing/ thriving the way he would like here. He wants to move out West somewhere- he named half a dozen states as possibilities but hasn't figured out exactly where yet..

Must be something in the water. I heard two people today talking about moving to South Carolina and one to Florida. Although all three were retired or close to retirement.

I heard another person at work today talking about moving out of CT. But at the same time, there are two young professionals who currently live in Westchester and want to move into CT to get away from NY altogether.

Let's see you make that same assessment when you are retired and living on a fixed income. Many seniors get most of their income from Social Security which can not keep up with these high taxes in this state. The majority of people I know that are moving out of state are newly retired or have been retired but just can't keep up with the high property taxes.

There should be better tax relief for the seniors in this state and it would make financial sense. The seniors do not have kids in the school systems so that would balance out the budgets of many towns as education is about 60% to 65% of a towns budget.

I know that one of my representatives in Trumbull is trying to get better senior relief passed in CT.

A lot of these new taxes are regressive which hurt the lower income households. When you combine the regressive taxes from the state with the high property taxes many seniors just can't make it here. The overall tax burden on lower income individuals is just too great now.

Coming from Chicago, I have learned that high taxes and/or high condo assessments usually go hand in hand with corruption. I am new to Ct. and not sure how long I'll stay (we are retired) but I am always leery of a state that has to tax social security to make ends meet. Between Federal Reserve ZIRP policies and taxation on pensions, retirees are being crushed and it seems like most people are quite accepting of the situation.
