It ALREADY has held. 84 eastbound has had 3 lanes for weeks and has had ZERO traffic, except for one day when they were doing nightime paving that got extended late. The westbound version was the one that opened up today.

There was a ton of traffic out there today in the typical areas. A "low" traffic day(for whatever route you took) still means A lot of red on the maps and traffic cams on fox also showed the jam ups.

It's never completely green through 84 at 8am in waterbury in either direction, until today. It was so bad it had traffic outside of rush hour at times. That jam up would restart as early as around 1pm some days on 84 westbound where it went down to 2 lanes from 4 going up the hill. It would jam up all the way back to 691 on friday afternoon.

Bridgeport-Greenwich corridor need that extra lane traffic start at 5:43 AM doesn’t end till 10:40 AM then traffic start back up at 2:15 PM throughout the day highway is overcrowded and random delays. New Haven I-91 to I-95 merge have delays too but not that bad

Allowing that level of congestion with routine 30 mile delays on friday afternoons going north through ct suburbs and small cities is absolutely ridiculous.

It should be noted that the 84 project is not completely finished so there will be off hour delays at times due to final finishing touches being done like paving/exit work. They really did a great job on that project. It's the way things should be done. They've finished ahead of schedule and under budget.

Kids are coming of age and driving.

If I was on a trip, I'd certainly avoid gas in NY, NJ and CT if possible. I live here and I do that when I can anyway.

Today is a Jewish holiday - not sure if that would affect traffic. I only say this because (a) yesterday someone mentioned being exited today was a holiday and (b) I've had jobs where people took Jewish holidays off without fail. I admittedly have no idea which ones are the important ones.

^^^ Why New Jersey heard it is cheaper than Connecticut on the radio yesterday and they pump the gas for you. Can't bear that. They should just do away with the gas tax.

New Jersey is a major port and has refineries which makes gas there cheaper. Connecticut does not so all gas must be trucked into the state. According to gasbuddy.com the average price of gas in New Jersey is $2.815 in Toms River while the highest average price in Connecticut is $2.988 in Bridgeport. Its not that big a difference. It is true that New Jersey never allowed self service for gas. It is weird since we are so used to pumping our own nowadays. Jay

Did NJ add more gas taxes? I've noticed the spread is much smaller now. I often don't even bother filling up like i used to.

I noticed irregularities with some NJ gas stations on US Route 1, between New Brunswick and Trenton. This was back on August 21st. One chain was quite a bit higher...almost at gouging levels. I want to say it was Sunoco.

Meanwhile, nothing looks different here in Berlin or New Britain. A Citgo near me is at $2.879 like yesterday.

Yeah, I stopped on the GSP for gas at a rest stop. They were never great on price, but still better than CT. A few weeks ago they were more expensive than my local gas!
