if there is one place for both sides of toll argument to agree on, it should be the 684 section, no reason CT should be paying for that. CT state troopers never patrol that area either, and NYSP doesn't set up shop on that stretch either.

Can't wait to see the Westfarms Mall area around Christmastime. Cars heading north on Route 9 getting off Exit 30, then taking 71 up to South Main St to get on 84 to avoid the toll, not to mention the one who get off and on at 39A or 40 Eastbound and 41 Westbound to avoid it. One bright spot: it will clear up any traffic issues of people getting on 84 East at the jughandle on New Britain Ave. That ramp will become the equivalent of the entrances in Delaware from Route 896 to I-95 South (for those who haven't driven I-95 in Delaware, it's the biggest shunpike exit in the northeast to avoid the toll between the last exit in DE and the Maryland border).

I don't think people will try driving around that toll to save .40 cents. Trucks probably would though since they are paying 3.50.

You see it that way, I see it as an opportunity to collect tolls from New Yorkers.

I can’t imagine NY letting that one fly.

The toll amounts are pretty modest. Cars and trucks would waste more in gas than the cost of the tolls so it’s unlikely this will happen often. Jay

The traffic created on local streets to circumvent is going to be a disaster (Main Street in Norwalk as opposed to Route 7). Productivity disaster in the making. Lamont is pure genius.

Oh come on now. You exaggerate. Few drivers, particularly commuters are going to go that far out of their way to save a few pennies. Jay

If it’s a few pennies how are ever going to amass billions needed for transportation infrastructure? Help me reconcile this common core math.

I agree. You don’t see mass amounts of people doing that in NY, NJ, or MA.
