So here's a confusing one. We are almost finished with our pool build and have started installing our 6 ft privacy fence which meets our local pool safety codes. The owner of the fence company just informed us that he " just noticed" that our neighbor's fence which only runs about 3/4 of the length of the rear of the yard will prevent us from meeting code. Reason being, their fence has horizontals facing their property ( they also have a pool). Since the survey we had done showed that about half of their fence is on our property line, we planned to build our fence right up against it. Now we are being told by the fence company owner that we will have to have our fence installed 4 ft away from their fence for ours to meet code. Does that sound right?! Why should we have to eat 4 ft of our property because of their fence?! And part of it is on our property. The owners of this house behind us with the neighboring fence just bought this house and haven't even moved in yet so asking them to turn their panels around our put up wire mesh on their side is not an option. We live in a small town on the water so the lots are small so losing 4 feet of property is ridiculous. Thoughts?

Check with your town's zoning department, and find out for sure what the rules are. It's town-specific.

I have not heard of this. Call the town building departing and ask them. Jay
