The Capital Region Development Authority has completed a study of the latest round of new apartments that have been added to downtown Hartford recently and were pleasantly surprised to find that they are renting much faster than originally thought they would. With Hartford still having one of the tightest rental markets in the country, it is likely that more and more new apartments are going to be added there. Jay

That is just one view of Atlanta and you are right it is a much bigger city. Hartford is improving a lot. Just look around at all the new housing and yet it still has one of the tightest rental markets in the country. That says a lot. Jay

Can't believe we haven't discussed New England's rising star's latest gaff:

Records: Hartford Has Already Paid $1.8M To Subsidiary Of Group Hoping To Build On Dillon Stadium Site - Courant Community

For a city that constantly complains about lack of money, and leaders concocting ridiculous ideas about how to coerce more money from businesses and residents that have actually stayed, it's unbelievable that they just threw money at a guy with nothing more than a scheme and a criminal record. Seriously, use google before shelling out 1.8 million dollars to a random developer.

Called it..Road, Site Work Near New Hartford Ballpark Tops $12 Million - Courant Community

Sitework and roadwork is nearly $7m over estimates. The orginal bid was $5.8m and now they are near $13m! This is a no-bid contract too which means Centerplan (*centerEarth) did not have to compete to win the work. Something is very sketchy about this.

An overrun of $4m on a $60+contract, ok. More Doubling of a the SITE WORK Contract <--NOT RIGHT.

Someone knew something and someone profited BIG time off this. My guess, the company that didn't exist until 2 weeks before the work started..Look it up, wanna talk about corruption/breaking the law.

2 stadium deals, 2 patterns of corruption. Isn't the goal to erase Hartford's negative image?

I suspect this is another reason why people are hesitant to spend time or money there. Most people who live in the suburbs pride themselves on living in places with little to no political corruption. Unlike our capitol city, which reeks of it, both at the state and municipal level. There's a tremendous sense of mistrust in the government doing the right thing in this state, and many people equate Hartford with being the epicenter of it. I've said before and I'll say again, I understand the appeal of new sports stadiums, but developers and planners don't deserve a dime from the taxpayers for this. Welfare as we know it may be dying, but corporate welfare is alive and kicking, and this is the most egregious example of it.

Apart from that, despite all the talk of new apartments and developments going on in Hartford, it's still regarded as a 9 to 5 city by most suburbanites. Not saying that I personally feel that way, but enough people do where it prevents the city from being as successful as it could be. Short of that, many of the bordering suburbs offer their own sense of nightlife, at lower cost, and that's where people are spending their money, and that's where their tax dollars are going. And it's not just West Hartford that has a good dining scene. Drive through Bloomfield sometime over by Wintonbury Plaza and you'll see what I mean: they have wonderful ethnic restaurants and bakeries, they have a movie theater, they have an amazing gastropub (Republic). Off the beaten path, they also have two amazing microbreweries and now a distillery. All of these places are popular draws. So even as Hartford tries to up the ante, so too have the suburbs.
