I'm deciding between two job offers: one is five minutes from my house but doesn't really intrigue me, and the other is in Bridgeport (about a 28 minute commute without traffic) and is a position that interests me more.

I've heard absolute horror stories about 95, and 30 minutes one way is about the maximum commute time that I would like to have. I can deal with 45 minutes-1 hour every now and then, but not as a daily occurrence. From what I've read and seen on google maps it seems that the worst of the 95 traffic is south of Bridgeport, around Norwalk and Stamford. Is this true? Or is consistently just as bad between Bridgeport and New Haven? The job doesn't pay well enough to justify that kind of headache every day, so I'd just like to know. Thanks.

According to Metro North it is less than half an hour by rail. If you decided on this new job, wouldn't that be the best way?

There will be traffic between New Haven and Bridgeport but it will not be like Bridgeport to Stamford. I think it should be fine. Jay

Traffic will not be bad. Fairly easy commute.

I think it depends on what part of New Haven you're in. If it's in the Annex, I wish you luck, and am solidly pessimistic. If it's in the Foxon side of Fair Haven, ditto.

If it's downtown or the State Street area or East Rock, I think you'd have a good shot at making it in under 1/2 hour. If you're in Westville, I don't know if you'd be better off getting on 15 and then switching to 95 in Milford, or if you'd find it easier to shoot down into West Haven via Forest Road and catch 95 on that end somewhere.

Not that easy…. every afternoon there is stop and go traffic from Marsh Hill Rd (Orange) through East Haven… I have been sitting in it every day.

It is dependent on where in New Haven you are coming from, and whether you need to use the Q bridge. I commuted for a couple months from Annex to Milford and I hated it. The merritt is not much better anywhere in CT during rush hour, either, but at least you don't have the giant traffic jam of a bridge to deal with. If I were you, I'd take the job in Bridgeport that you actually want, and try to find a place to live in Trumbull, Stratford or somewhere closer to BPT.

It's a nightmare I mean I travel route 8 has it's moments from Waterbury takes me about an hour to Bridgeport maybe 50 minute's. However, does not compare to the horror stories to I 95.
