Missed a big snowstorm today by about 175 miles. Thats all it takes for a hit or miss sometimes.

The clipper coming down was too slow. It should of merged with the coastal to allow it to come closer to the coast. Instead its seperate now and just weaken to snow showers for us tomorrow. Timing. Timing. Timing. Oh well.

Daylight saving time is just a little over a week away.....

BTW, BDR is reporting just 0.3" of snow today. They actually needed just 1.3" more to break the record for the date (set in 1971)

So glad that New Britain only had a thick coating which was gone before mid-afternoon!

175 miles...based where exactly? Where you are, Cam? Hartford? I'm confused!

To quote Joe Furey of WTIC-AM 1080 and FOX 61: "Sundown was at 5:46 this af'ernoon. 31 in...downtown Hartford."

It'd be cool if we held some type of contest to do our impressions of the weathermen! Joe's vocal delivery is pretty funny sometimes, even if it's unintentional.

They now show the 14th as staying under 50.....but interestingly after Wednesday's "heat" they show no temps over 60 in their usually inaccurate 45 day extended through April 17th (a lot of 59s in there though, including this Thursday).....this was for my home location in Westchester, but I then put Greenwich in there and got the same thing.

175-225 mile West with the storm CT would of had a major snowstorm.

Interestingly enough, because of the colder waters, often during March and April "heat" BDL gets warmer than BDR and even much of the time NYC (similar to what I noticed in Albany during my years there). To give you an idea, this coming Wednesday's record highs all occurred in 2000, in BDR it is "only" 60 (and I expect to get broken maybe by even 5 degrees or more), at Central Park it is 69 (I give it a 50-60% chance) but at BDL it is 72 (I give it a 40-50% chance)

Barring some colder weather in late March or April (or in their case even May as happened in some years like this) where they get snow that either misses us or is rain for us, Albany will break it's all time least snow winter as they are only at a little over 10". But it only takes about 3-4 more inches to make it #2. Buffalo was headed to their least snowy winter (and incredibly had even less snow than us going into February) but then got some serious lake effect during that mid-February cold wave though at around 50" they are still well below normal and possibly poised for top 10 lowest.

More incredible is Williamsport, PA, they do average a little less snow per winter than Albany (about 45-50", similar to BDL, whereas Albany's average is 60-65"), but they have just over FIVE (yes 5!) inches for the whole season. I can't find their top ten least snowy winters (yes, Cambium I know there's ways to create charts, I'm just being lazy and forgetful ) but I bet it's #1.

An interesting side note, Central Park is at 31.6" and it is unlikely (but not impossible) they'll get to 40". For some reason, amounts between 30 and 40 inches for the season have been quite rare in the last 4-5 decades, either it's under 30" or over 40" perhaps reflecting that we get a lot of "boom or bust" snows maybe even more than it the past as opposed to multiple moderate snowfalls like in upstate NY or northern New England (this year is a good example, without the January blizzard it would've been in the top 10 least snowy winters though not sure about BDR with that). 2000-01 (35.6") is the only such total in this range since 1969.
