Yeah, should be. I forget the details but I assume it just detects where the strike is then radiates out based on speed of sound. I think intensity is involved too. Pretty neat for sure.

Raining here. Goodbye dry day #3. Ground always wet. Pools still cool

Looks like a tornado touch down in Waterbury. Tree branches and debri lining the road. Bunch of geese seem confused on way back home. Telephone poles and trees bent. Looks like the rain caused mini mudslides rocks and dirt lining the streets.

They were around. Maybe. If NWS gets enough reports they'll send someone out there to confirm.

Waterbury Observer reporting flooding in areas of Waterbury and pictures coming in of down trees in Waterbury.

Word going out Town Plot got hit with a tornado. Should be interesting lots of down trees. People reporting after the storm passed lots of live wires on the ground. Pictures of smoke from down wires online.

Flooding caused a mini geyser blowing the manhole cover off on Robbins Steet in Waterbury.

Some reason Waterbury gets hit hard with storms. Few years back remember a storm came through leaving ankle deep water.

Summer 2017 so far is not bad! Only 1 heat wave. No heat waves in sight. Not as muggy as could be. Temps in 70s many times. Dog days are coming now though. Lets hope this continues.

Not in winter mode but did have a crisp Fall apple picking wanting moment the other day. lol

...Summary...
The National Weather Service in New York NY has confirmed a
Microburst /Straight Line Wind Damage/ near Cornwall in Orange
County New York on June 30, 2017.

With assistance of the Cornwall NY Office of Emergency Management,
the National Weather Service conducted a storm survey of wind
damage that resulted from severe thunderstorms.

Many large hardwood trees were downed, some falling on power
lines, a house and a shed in an area bounded from near North
Jacquelin Street and Briarcliff Place to Mill Street and Bede
Terrace. One tree was completely sheared off just above the
ground.

Based on the ground survey and doppler radar imagery, the National
Weather Service concluded that a microburst with estimated wind
speeds from 86 to 96 mph occurred across this area of Cornwall.

The National Weather Service thanks the Cornwall Office of
Emergency Management for their assistance in performing this
survey.

This information can also be found on our website at
weather.gov/NYC.

For reference...
A microburst is a convective downdraft with an affected outflow
area of less than 2 1/2 miles wide and peak winds lasting less
than 5 minutes. Microbursts may induce dangerous horizontal and
vertical wind shears...which can adversely affect aircraft
performance and cause property damage. Straight-line winds are
generally any wind that is not associated with rotation...used
mainly to differentiate them from tornadic winds.

Check out some other reports for NWS NY coverage area.

My Backyard 19.5" of rain since March 1st.

Only 7 times with 3 or more days straight without any precip.

Only 1 heat wave.

I'd like to have a few days straight without looking at the radar or needing an umbrella or walking on wet grass please

A tropical day today with scattered afternoon/evening t-storms possible, especially in western CT. The best chance of showers/storms this weekend is Saturday night and ending Sunday morning as a cold front passes. It will be dry most of Sunday, and lower humidity arrives Monday night as another cold front sweeps through. We’re looking at a spectacular 4th of July – warm, sunny, with refreshing air.

Can't wait for the 4th...

Those rain totals should also include a small thunderstorm which some in New Britain and where I am (by the Berlin/Newington town line) got right around 11 PM...on top of the drenching rain in the early evening on Friday.
