They were pan pizzas which was different than most of the other places in the area. It is still in business but I have not been there in a couple of years now. I am assuming it is still the same. Whenever I'm in CT, I stop at two places: Duchess to get a hot dog and Beverly pizza to get a pie. One of the owners from my teenage years still works there. He's getting on in years. Another man, who grew up in Black Rock the same time I did, but went to St. Anns School, worked there as a teen and is still there! There's something about the blend of cheeses and the very thin crust that tastes like no other. The pizzeria is showing it's age. My friends and I would go to the Beverly for a Saturday matinee and it cost .50 a ticket.

My first job was in the box office of the Beverly Theater. I would sit out in the little glass booth selling tickets. Henry, the owner, checked every 15 minutes to see how many I sold. My wage was $1.85 and hour. "The French Connection" was one of the popular movies at the time.

Look into Stamford, Darien, or Norwalk...think it's almost a 40% properly tax difference with Stamford than Bridgeport. Norwalk can probably have the lowest housing prices of the three. Not familiar with what area's are safe or not though.
