Only public beaches I know are Hammonasset and Rocky Neck. Any other recommendations for beaches in CT?

Well technically none are ocean.

Sherwood Island and Silver Sands are the other state beaches. Silver Sands is free to park for now. If you walk the boardwalk west, you'll arrive at Walnut Beach, which is a nice sandy beach.

Many towns have beaches you can pay to park at too. Some you can finagle free street parking too. One of my favorites is Woodmont Beach. Madison has some beatiful town beaches.

If you actually want to swim, I would recommend you stay east of New Haven. I presented some data on this in another thread: beaches in greenwich

Basically, the water west of New Haven has too much sewage in it.

It gets cleaner as you move east from NYC. If there hasn't been a major rain in a while the water is fine for the most part. Don't go in after a heavy rain. Gross.

Sherwood Island and Silver Sands are also state beaches. If you are willing to pay, call the town halls of localities you are interested in. Fairfield was pretty reasonable a few years ago.

Ocean Beach in New London is also open to the public. But you pay for parking/admission of course. Ocean Beach also has a very large pool, miniature golf, a boardwalk, a place to eat, playground for little ones.

^^^^ Was thinking ocean beach. Just fiancé and I wanting to do a day trip from Naugatuck. Heard doesn't get as crowded as Rocky Neck or Hammonasset.

Long Island blocks CT from the Atlantic Ocean, so we have Long Island sound instead of an "ocean beach". We don't have the waves you see along the ocean shoreline. If you truly want to be along the ocean, you'll have to head to Rhode Island or maybe Long Island.

RunD means Ocean Beach in New London, which is the name of the beach. That's where I like to go myself. It has convenient parking, nice facilities, not too crowded.
