I think tis is a local property owner proposing this. They already own a shopping center on that site and want to redevelop it. Why a 19 story building is beyond me but I too have my doubts about it ever being built. Jay

Because they see dollar signs… its cheaper for someone with limited property to build up and not out….

I agree with everyone else, it will be ugly.. Derby is a small town with an inner city feel and the population right by downtown (which is basically ghetto) won't support a hotel or nice apartments in my opinion. Granted Shelton is right there and seems to have success with Avalon… Too bad they can't do something like that.

THat would be similar to the AFLAC tower in Columbus, GA. Not sure if it's changed since I was last there, but it's a 19 story building surrounded by a lot of 2-3-4 story ones. Unlike Derby, though, Columbus is a growing small city, so it does have hope that maybe in 10-20 years, it won't look so out of place.

It will defiently look cool from Route 8. It'd be pretty funny knowing that Derby will have a taller building than the tallest building in our most populated city, Bridgeport.

I can see it potentially become lower income housing.

Right, the future home of lower fairfield county cities further gentrification victims.

That's already what Derby/Ansonia are. Those pushed out of Stamford/Norwalk who refuse to settle for Bridgeport.

Exactly, so more housing is needed for the next waves. Not enough room to go out, so they need to go up. This developer is no fool.
