Yeah, this is the way the system works. You say how much to withhold, and if you withhold too little, there is a penalty. If you don't file, there is a penalty. It might take a few years to catch up to you, but you would be an idiot to think it wouldn't.

But there are a lot of idiots out there.

Amazing. Ct should follow the example of the IRS and sentence them to time in prison. Set an example.
You're advocating imprisoning hard working Americans for not filing taxes so they can be robbed? Not to mention most of them probably are giving up a REFUND?

What about all the illegals who are not paying ANY taxes yet living off welfare? What's wrong with you?

You shouldn't be able to not withhold. Problem solved.

If you paid too much, you get it back every year.. introducing this 'feature' just invites this problem. Plus then it becomes stupid NOT to file.

They're not innocent if they aren't paying their fair share of taxes. I'm certain that your liberal view of being able to get away with not paying taxes suits you, but even liberals need to pay their fair share.

Wrong. Not filing taxes is a crime. Criminals are not innocent.

The folks under investigation also "fudged" their W-4s to where they had NO withholding taken out of their pay. Therefore no refunds were "lost".

Why don't we all stop paying our taxes so we don't get "robbed" too... oh wait, then where would that leave these CT employees.

And please, don't confuse this with "liberalism." The liberals I know, myself included, are happy (edit: ok more like begrudgingly) to pay our fair share in taxes.
