Actually, now that I think of it...the section 8 laws have changed a lot lately and it's no longer just "complexes". You can apply for section 8 in any rental that is willing to accept it, and they come do an inspection and "approve" the property...so it's possible that some section 8 tenants are living there.

A lot of property owners are fine with it because the state checks clear more readily than private checks. Go figure.

I know this because my brother recently had an "inspection" on his first floor apartment on the East side of Manchester and we got a good lesson on the new section 8 policies.

I did like some of the places in Westfield, especially because in terms of amenities, the only major complexes with W/D in the units are all off West Lake. I was liking Northwood in particular. Anyone with any experiences? Or other rental properties? I'm not ready to buy yet, as I'm not sure where I'll live long term, but if anyone even has a condo to rent in the general area for July this year, that would be agreeable.

One thing I noticed though is that the rents are fairly high. Especially when you consider none of the places even pay for utilties and make you drive to a central trash compactor. I lived in Center City Philly and Downtown Minneapolis, and the rents are higher than both of those places. Is that common for CT?

JViello - actually section 8 was always that way. We had tenants years ago that were section 8. The state sent us a check to pay for their rent. Never a problem.

gnuf - The set up is common for suburban complexes and the prices are typical for a nicer complex which Northwoods would be considered. Jay

Default Meriden Is A Dump

Meriden - Do NOT move here. I cannot move out fast enough. The area of Meriden I currently live in is essentially one big housing project with negihborhoods mixed in. I came home from work 2 days ago to find my back door broken down (it was dead bolted) and my 42 inch HD TV missing.

This happened in broad daylight.

In talking to neighbors, it seems this is common in this area. Being a CT transplant I had no idea how shady this town really is.

When people are willing to rob your home in broad daylight..that's not a good sign.

From what I've seen and heard about central CT is that it's one big financial mess where crime runs rampant.

I never dreamed this state was full of so much criminal activity.

Either your very wealthy or a statistic waiting to happen.

Scranton, calm down. Crime doesn't "run rampant" in central CT.

Meriden isn't so great. If you want halfway between Hartford and New Haven, Middletown is a better choice than Meriden.
