Will keep up with this, seems interesting.
Nice. I was looking for the updated version!

That is good. The $300 million plan was ridiculous and a waste of money. This was a scheme between the city and MetroCOG. I know CTDOT was not on board with the plan. They just do not have the money for it and do not see the need for it. Jay

Agreed, though still think a center island configuration for downtown Bridgeport is something that makes a lot of sense and is something that the state or even other states should chip in for, because it's effectively increased capacity for all express / regional services that use the line.

I thought that price is insane too. Springfield Union station spent only 75 million as comparison.

It's from building in a center island platform for a heavily trafficked quad-tracked route while trying to be minimally disruptive to service. Doing it in order to increase capacity for the system as a whole makes sense, but doing it with Barnum was pretty ridiculous--at that point, you might as well consider eliminating Bridgeport for express services.

Again over the border here in Fairfield but I think it relates well to transit oriented development that's needed in the eastern part of town. Helps us reconnect to BPT and attract wealth that way.

In my mind great news.

Also just over the line in Fairfield, it looks like there is finally some movement on development of the Fairfield Metro Center site. Delayed because of a ridiculously long Conservation Commission approval of very minor changes to the original project plan and then the financial crisis which wiped out funding for the first phase Concourse Building and hotel, the site has sat vacant for more than a decade now. Hopefully a new mixed use plan can be developed and approved for this important site. Jay

I hope they redevelop it. I view this, though, as the easy step.

Getting the investment $ actually on the table is the heavy lifting.

My parents, who live in Grasmere, mentioned additional ancillary construction in the area. I really do hope that the areas around Fairfield Metro station take off -- there is so much potential for development there. For the first time, I am also looking at properties in Black Rock for investment, so I fully admit that these comments are serving my interests.

Bridgeport wants to build a pedestrian bridge across Ash Creek from the foot of Fox Street to the Fairfield Metro Center site. That will mean a lot more of Black Rock will be within walking distance of the train station. Keep that in mind when looking. Jay
