My wife and I are planning on moving from GA to CT. We are in be insurance and IT fields respectively. We are looking to work in the Hartford area and living within a 20 min commute. The reason for moving is we have a three year old with one on the way, the school systems here are terrible and crime rate is high. We want to raise our family where we feel safe and don't have to pay 2000 a month for private schooling. Any perspective on this subject would be extremely appreciated and welcomed. Thank yall

I mean will have to look into. I mean coming to CT do hope pay will be higher than GA. Not to familiar eons when I went to private elementary school was $1,000/$2,000 a year cam imagine it inflated upwards probably $4,000. I know high school was $4,000, but cost is somewhere between $6,000 to $7,000.

The cost of living is much different but from what we have researched we will be getting a substantial bump in pay also somewhere around 150000 a year for the household income. We don't want to send our kids to private school unless we have no other option. Public schools will be ideal, more looking if west Hartford, newington, etc would be good areas to look at.

Welcome to Connecticut and the New England region

When u move from Georgia to Connecticut you going be in for a culture stock which is expected. Connecticut is one of wealthiest states and one of the most expensive to live school system is general better than Georgia well the suburbs are but they are costly .

Can I known your budget for a home or apartment so I will narrow things down for the school system.

Look into West Hartford. IMO, that's CT's best all around town for the money. Awesome and safe downtown area with a ton of great restaurants and bars (for nights without the kids), good schools and low crime. Houses are expensive, but relatively speaking, are a good buy if you must live in CT. Towns with similar home values and schools do not have nearly the same level of liveliness. If I planned on staying in CT, I would be considering a relo to WH myself.

It is very rare that I recommend CT, but since you are definitely moving here and definitely working in Hartford, you should DEFINITELY look into West Hartford.

Welcome to CT! It's nice to see someone coming to CT instead of moving to GA. You will have a very nice lifestyle in Hartford County if you are making $150,000. I live in Fairfield County and don't know that much about the towns up in Hartford but there are lots of people in this forum who do.

There is a "DRG" system rating in CT and the best schools are in the "A" DRG and the worst are in the "I". It seems pretty consistent throughout the years for the most part. This might be a good starting place coupled with comments from posters on here.

All the "A" schools are in Fairfed County but the "B" and "C" schools are all very good too. It looks like you will have lots of choices up near Hartford to find a town with good schools.

$300,000 isn't going to get much in any towns that are high on the list for education (certainly not West Hartford, Farmington, Glastonbury). Pretty much any good system west of the river and within in 20-30 minutes of Hartford is out. There are some good systems east of the river where I think $300K could work (South Windsor, Marlborough, Portland).
