Only way to really cut down on highway traffic is eliminate car travel use of bus and ride share vehicles on the highway.

If this state cab convert to train transportation be awesome, but too late in the game for that.
You really don't think we'll be mostly driving non-ICE cars by then?

If it's not electric, it'll be something else. ICE cars will be only collectibles and classics by 2050.

Hope not ha...but I still think there will be ICE car's. Electric really hasn't taken off except with Toyota and I am hoping hydrogen is the new wave.

They will start by shutting down Bridgeport Harbor I bet. Or, they will possibly do a gas conversion. CT is 4% renewable energy and wants to be 25% by 2020, long way to go. Also they are a net importer of electricity and want to become a net exporter by 2020 while also lowering carbon emissions?
PowerPlant in Bridgeport is half of city tax revenue

Got something to back that up? That's hard to believe.

Half might be a stretch. They most likely are one of the top taxpayers in the city though.

My guess is the coal burners days are numbered, it's the only one left in the state. PSEG does want to put a combined cycle unit at the same location. Another combined cycle is also there owned by someone else, forget who.

Transportation could look very different by then with alternative fuel cars, driverless cars, and ridesharing services, all of which will make the whole transportation system much more efficient. Hopefully we'll have a better public transportation system by then, as well.

Some of the other reductions are things that will mostly happen as a result of improvements in technology and federal regulations.

Its feasible only if we can get rid of the stranglehold of the fossil fuel companies.

Connecticut faces a very uncertain future with climate change- with more heat waves, destructive storms, assorted extreme weather events and sea rise.

Carbon in the atmosphere is reaching a critical point- likely rising to 406-407ppm spring 2016- the highest in 4-10 million years.
We have over 2 degrees C above the pre industrial level baked in. Hopefully all of you understand what this means.

C02 in the atmosphere over the last 800,000 years has varied 100ppm from ice age to inter glacial 180ppm to 280ppm these due almost totally to orbital variations- tilt of the axis and shape of the orbit around the sun. Positive feedback loops over many centuries caused C02 to rise and fall.

Since about 1880 C02 has risen from 280ppm to 405ppm- unprecedented in geologic history! This rise is predicated 99% on humans burning coal, oil and natural gas. Either we begin to reduce our emissions dramatically now- Malloy's plan seems to go with the scientific consensus - take heed or your children will face a very harsh and uncertain future. As it is we will see a dramatic change in our socio- economic reality if emissions peaked right now. We have risen 1 degree C above the pre industrial level- we have at least another 1 degree in the 'pipeline'- figure it out!
