Hi all,

Looking to rent a 3 bedroom single family house, townhouse or an apartment in a nice town and need your input please...

Need:
- Nice town
- Good elementary school
- Short commute to New Haven, North Haven and Meriden

Looking to pay no more than $1500 in rent.

Cheshire seems to be a great option but can't find a lot of available rentals (I'm searching online).

Looking forward to your recommendations...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Try Wallingford. Great towns and more rentals. North Haven is also very nice.

Thanks for the quick response!

Are schools in Wallingford and North Haven as good or close enough to Cheshire?

Maybe statistically a tad lower, but still very good. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids to either school district.

I would probably not send my kids to Hamden, New Haven or Meriden schools.

I believe that North Haven are close to Cheshire in quality of schools. The difference I would say is more related to the socio-economic make up of the towns rather than the quality of education. Cheshire is more affluent than North Haven. Wallingford schools are also good but again the town is a lot more diverse than North Haven or Cheshire. Keep in mind that diversity can be a good thing for children to be exposed to. Realizing that all families are not like their own can be a good lesson to learn. My kids went to the most diverse school in our town and learned at a young age that not all people live in a nice big house with lots of amenities. Gave them an appreciation of what they have. IF you want to compare schools in Connecticut, please check the link below for more information. I generally look for schools that perform at or above the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. Jay

I relocated to Wallingford almost two years ago and we are very pleased with the quality of the schools. We have familiarity with elementary and middle schools but have not yet dealt with either high school although we hear plenty of positives from friends with older kids.

As far as rentals, in my limited search when we moved, I would say it may be difficult to find a 3BR single family home for less than $1500 per month. You may be able to find a town house/condo or an apartment in that range but 2BR's seem to be easier to locate. Having said that, when we moved, we found a 3BR condo for $1250 in a really nice part of Wallingford so it is possible.

Good luck in your search and, if you have any specific questions about Wallingford, I'd be happy to help if I can.

Yes. CT schools, in general, provide excellent educations. What makes one better or "worse" is the student/families they have.
