Thank you all so much for your inputs. This really helps a lot. Like you've suggested, we are planning to check out these places before we enroll in a school. How about rents at these places? We won't be buying a property for at least the next five years and so not really worried about property taxes
Thank you Jay for the link!

There are some rentals in these towns but keep in mind that Connecticut does not really have many large scale apartment complexes, particularly in the towns you are interested in. There more likely to be privately owned condos for rent. Please provide us with your budget so we can provide you with more information. Jay
Avon and Simsbury will have more limited rental options, though you may be able to also find an occasional house for rent. Our old neighbors in Avon were relocated to Hong Kong for 2-3 years for work and rented their Avon house out while they were overseas rather than sell it. They do have some apartments and condos for rent, though, so it's not like they are non-existent. (Farmington Woods is a huge condo complex of over 1,000 units that is partly in Avon and partly in Farmington - while they are mostly for sale/resale, they do have some rentals come up.)
Farmington and West Hartford should offer you more rental options, but still not a huge amount. WH does have a pretty big complex near where the Goldroc diner is located, I think.
Our budget is around $1500/- for a 2bhk and would prefer one which falls in the school attendance zone. I've also been looking up for places online and like you pointed out, its more of condos which pop up.

What do you mean by "school attendance zone"? If you live in a town, your children will attend schools in that town. $1,500 would get you a 2 bedroom townhouse in the Milestone Condo complex in Glastonbury. They are nice but not fancy. Jay
Thanks again Jay. We are moving from out of country and I saw that the schools have a streetwise listing. Would we be able to find anything in Farmington for 1500$?

Unionville is a village within the town of Farmington, so the schools at the middle school and high school level will be the same. I think Farmington has 2 or 3 elementary schools, but all should be good quality.
