I will be going to the Navy for the next four years as an EM(electricians mate) and will probably serve as an apprentice once i get out.

Does anyone know the pay for an apprentice in CT? Also the pay for a qualified electrician? I figure the latter is more than i can make in FL however im not sure if i shouldn't just be an apprentice here and then move.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't have exact figures but I know tradesmen in CT make a LOT more than the South. Granted, most times you need more licensing and certification but you can make a good living in the "trades" here in CT.

my brother is an electrician so i can try to find out for you. I know he didn't make much as an apprentice, but once he got his license he was able to quickly increase his pay. Also, he works through a company, but takes small side jobs which helps out the income situation as well.

I think that buried in one of the recent threads going on this board , someone said that they moved to Florida because the requirements for an Electrican were less. What they did not count on was that there were a lot more people that qualified for the job which meant more competition for a job and thus less salary. I am paraphrasing but I beleive that was their point. I think if your goal is to live in Connecticut, then you should apprentice here. It is difficult but probably worth it. Electricians make good money here, Jay

I agree. I also know people in CT who work independently as electricians, contractors, plumbers, etc. and they do very well for themselves!
