The website Infotainment has rated the top ten snobbiest towns in the state. Some are pretty obvious but I don't know that I agree with all of them. I think there are snobbier towns than Simsbury and I don't think Wilton is snobbier than the sections of Greenwich they identify. What do you think? Are there towns that should have been included? having lived in Avon before and knowing a lot of people in the Farmington Valley, I had always thought Avon had more of a "snobbish" reputation as compared to Simsbury, Farmington and West Hartford. It was not my experience when I lived there - I found most people there to be very friendly and helpful in Avon, Farmington & Simsbury, but I thought that was the reputation. I actually thought more people were far more likely to go out of their way to be helpful in Avon than in East Lyme, Ellington or Newington (other places where I had homes.)

West Hartford - I know not everyone in West Hartford center at any given time is from WH, but the attitude there can be insufferable. Extra credit for the pretentious "WeHa" stickers.

Madison - Darien east.

Washington - seems to exist solely to enforce absurdly strict zoning and land use laws to prevent anyone else from moving there.

Now as a resident of the CT River Valley, I find it about as friendly/unfriendly as Westport. I really find most of suburban southern Connecticut to be about the same. I do notice much more overt friendliness in the south, in Texas and (ironically) Long Island, where pretension and snootiness were invented.

To save them time they should have just said FFC as number #1.

I don't think they should had split Greenwich as they did. Every other town listed has their own town government. I'm sure CT has enough snobbery towns for Greenwich to be counted once and the other three positions listed with completely different town.

Wilton is not snobby at all. In fact there are a lot of down to earth people in Wilton who like simple things- gardening, nature, farms, horses.

My list would include Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, north Stamford

Surprised Westport made the list. Lots of down-to-earth people, plus the artsy folk!
Riverside is much snobbier than Westport.

I grew up in Cromwell, which is the north part of middlesex county and the CT River Valley. I don't think Cromwell-ites were particularly snobbish, except maybe about our basketball team (they had won the state tournament the two years before I got into high school and had a run of 5 straight in the late 60s/early 70s).

I can see some of the wealthier areas in the valley - Old Saybrook, Essex and Chester - maybe having some snobbishness to them. And, I've seen some Long Islanders/New Yorkers visiting the area being snobbish - "I can't believe they still have oil heat (or well water or septic systems)" And, I remember another New Yorker wondering why there wasn't either a BMW or Mercedes dealer (forgot which one) in East Lyme or Old Lyme.
